when trying to download firefox i am not getting a pop up window and I can not find the file anywhere on my computer

when i am trying to download firefox on to my mac it appears to download the file but then there is no pop up window to open firefox or link it to my tool bar. i have decreased my security setting to allow pop ups and there is still nothing.
