Chosen solution

Thunderbird has two major parts; the program itself, and its profile which contains the user's data. You can re-install the program without affecting the data.

So the literal answer to your question about changing the language "without re-installation" is "you can't". But reinstalling the program doesn't affect your accounts, stored messages and other settings.

Having said that, occasionally things don't go to plan. To be safe, make a backup of your profile first.

and install it over your Chinese-language version.
