I need to import my bookmarks from SeaMonkey (on this PC) but FF doesn't see any bookmarks to import (there are hundreds from over 25 years of using SM).

I am using Linux Mint 17.1 and have Seamonkey and FF installed. I need to import my bookmarks from SM (hundreds of them from over 25 years of using SM) because SM crashes just after opening. The bookmarks were in SM before it started crashing. I know where the bookmark file is in SM. Can I copy and paste it over the bookmark file in FF? It is the email in SM that is causing the crash and it is trying to do something with email in the background as soon as I open SM. Crashes in about 10 seconds.

I have been using SM and FF for many years and used SM primarily because of the suite integration, especially email. My address book, etc., did import into Thunderbird properly.

Thanks for any help you are able to give me.

We don't really support SeaMonkey here, and I do not use it personally. I am not the best person to offer a solution, but no one else has yet so I will have a bash.

I am not sure which Firefox version SM is based on. I do note SM has a places.sqlite file, but that or its backup files may not be totally compatible with Firefox.

Create an additional Firefox test profile. You may then use that without risking damage to a working Firefox profile

Presumably SM will create backup bookmarks, try that and then try to open Firefox with the TEST profile and try to restore the bookmarks.

That method however overwrites any existing bookmarks. You will need to try the HTML export and import method if you need to truly import bookmarks.

The current SeaMonkey 2.33.1 has same Gecko as Firefox 36.0

Also SeaMonkey has only been around since February 2006 when it was started by community as SeaMonkey 1.0 to continue the old Mozilla suite which started in development as early as March 1999.

A forum to get support for the SeaMonkey suite is at http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewforum.php?f=51 Note that members first post there requires post approval.

You can export the bookmarks in SeaMonkey to an HTML file and import this file in the Bookmarks Manager (Library) to merge the SeaMonkey bookmarks with the Firefox bookmarks.
