So, a couple of hours ago I exported all my passwords into an xml.file via the export function of Firefox. Now I'm running a new windows (went from 7 to 10) and I can only import passwords from Internet Explorer and not from my file. And the button to export passwords has vanished completely...

What am I doing wrong here?

You likely used the Password Exporter extension to create this XML backup. You need to (re)install this extension to be able to import the backup.
