Why do I have to close the browser, then reopen it, to go to a different site?

more options

When I open the new tab page, & go to my Yahoo email account, it works fine. But, if I close it, & go back to the new tab page, & try to open a new site, it takes so long to open that I finally close the browser, & reopen it, & then it's fine. Some thing happens if I open one of the news articles on the new tab page. After I read the article, then close it, to go to a site, it takes it forever to open. Not sure what causes it, but if anybody has any ideas, other than it's Windows 10, please let me know! I use a 64 bit laptop with Windows 10, which I REALLY hate! But, unfortunately, they only gave people 30 days from receiving the Windows 10 upgrade to down grade to Windows 8 or 8.1.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Thanks for the help. Do I have to always start in safe mode for this now?

Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes). If the problem goes away, that tells us one thing. If it does not, that tells us something else.

It could be the work of one of your add-ons, or it could be Hardware Acceleration. How to disable Hardware Acceleration {web link}

Type about:addons<enter> in the address bar to open your Add-ons Manager. Hot key; <Control> (Mac=<Command>) <Shift> A)

In the Add-ons Manager, on the left, select Extensions. Disable a few add-ons, then Restart Firefox.

Some added toolbar and anti-virus add-ons are known to cause Firefox issues. Disable All Of them.

If the problem continues, disable some more (restarting FF). Continue until the problem is gone. After, you know what group is causing the issue. Re-enable the last group ONE AT A TIME (restarting FF) until the problem returns.

Once you think you found the problem, disable that and re-enable all the others, then restart again. Let us know who the suspect is, detective.

I'm going to archive this, just in case I have the issue again. It didn't start until after I added the weather extension, I think. But, if it does it again, I'll follow your steps & try to get it fixed. Once again thanks, & I DID know that running it in safe mode was to do repairs, or figure out the problem. And, you explained it very well without a lot of jargon that I wouldn't understand.
