I am on Windows 7 Premium, 32 bit, latest version of Firefox (31) and most up-to-date version of Adobe Reader. I used to be able to "use Adobe Reader (in Firefox)" to open Adobe documents and still can. What I can no longer do is click on a link in the Adobe document and have it open the link. I know I could use the "preview in Firefox" and that would work, but for various reasons I prefer not to.

Does anyone no if something has changed that prevents "use Adobe Reader (in Firefox)" from opening a link in the Adobe document. I don't really know how long this has been going on...I just "discovered" this phenomena last eve. Right now I am using the default of "Use Adobe Reader" but I would prefer not to.

Thanks to anyone who can help me clarify what is going on.

Regards, Axis

Hello Axis,

I'm sorry you had to face this problem. Lets try to fix it.

  • Go to options in your fx31
  • Click on Applications Panel. The Applications panel allows you to choose how Firefox handles different types of files.
  • Search for pdf and in action part choose use adobe reader(this will download the file and open it in adobe reader automatically) or choose use adobe acrobat (this will preview the pdf in firefox). Open in adobe reader is the default behaviour.

I think you are setting actions for adobe documents but you should set it for pdf or Portable Document Format(check it).

you can read this https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/set-how-firefox-handles-different-file-types?redirectlocale=en-US&as=u&redirectslug=Options+window+-+Applications+panel&utm_source=inproduct for more info.

Hope it helps. You can always get back if it didn't help you.

Hello Talha--

Thank you for your response. I am aware of all the options for handling adobe acrobat docs. What I was wondering about was if something had changed in the behavior of adobe documents with embedded links in them when opened in the mode "Use Adobe Acrobat (in Firefox)."

Apparently something has, whether it is in Adobe (I re-installed twice), in Windows (good chance of that) or Firefox (just wondering.) You see, I can remember opening Adobe Acrobats in "Use Adobe Acrobat (in Firefox)" mode and Firefox would open the links in the same tab. Now, when I try nothing happens at all.

But all of this is not really a problem for me anymore. I do really like the "Preview in Firefox" mode, except for printing...but that is not really a problem anymore as I can just click "download" in the Firefox Preview and it will give me an option to open or save. I can just click open, print the document in the Adobe and all is good. I don't even need to save the file to do this.

Also, my "online banking" formerly would not allow me to use Preview Mode to open statements in .pdf format. Now it does. So I am happy.

Again, thank you Talha for your response!

Regards, Axis
