How do I clear the list of top sites? How does a site that I have't been to in a very long time show up as a "top site"?

There must be 30 or more "top sites" on my top sites tab, even after I clear history. Who decided these for me, I did not pick these top sites, how were these decisions made?

hello, try to close and reopen the browser after you've cleared your history. your top sites will be determined by your most visited sites, maybe the recency of the visits does also play a part in the role.
in the bookmarks & history tab you can also long-press and pin custom entries to the start page.
