att.net pswd chg causes TB to stop logging on to inbound server?

changed my password on on att.net. now my bellsouth.net mail receives new messages, but thunderbird will not. I've deleted saved password. reset TB password. restarted TB.

This is the message I get:

Sending of password for xxx.bellsouth.net did not succeed. Mail server inbound.att.net responded: Server error - Please try again later

NB: password reset on Iphone also will not work??? But that may be just operator error on the iPhone

Use a secure mail key in TB with AT&T accounts and normal password authentication.
