Updated Firefox. Lost 100s of very important bookmarks! Help.

So... I updated Firefox, because it had been dragging and running slow. I use my computer a great deal for my self-employment business. I lost ALL of my bookmarks and folders. I have spent several hours now on the Mozilla Firefox pages, trying FAQ recommendations... and cannot find them, and have not been able to get them restored. Many of the bookmarks I had were priceless, and in my ecommerce business, they were essential to my operation. WTH happened? PLEASE tell me how to un-do this... to find those bookmarks!! Thank you much!!

Sorry to hear that. Should always have a copy of your bookmarks. I have some from windows 95 still.

You can type in the search box bookmarks.html to go get a copy of your bookmarks at any time. (amendment : am told "is not correct unless you set up Firefox to create automatic exports in HTML format". No idea on that myself, from Netscape to SeaMonkey to Firefox I never have had to set anything up ever. } But think your going to have to learn working with profiles and how to recover if they still exist. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-where-firefox-stores-user-data and https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles and https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/recover-lost-or-missing-bookmarks and https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/restore-bookmarks-from-backup-or-move-them some of those are for now and some for the future.

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

Thank you for your reply. I read and tried all of the suggestions on those pages. It seems that when I updated Firefox, the old profile was either deleted or written on top of. There wasn't an old profile from which to copy and paste. Any other options???

Look on your desktop. Do you see a folder called; Old Firefox?

Type about:profiles<enter> in the address bar. How many profiles are listed? How many should be there?

What is the content of the times.json file in the profile folder (created:)?

Are there any backups in the bookmarkbackups folder?

Are you using Sync?

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database (bookmarks and history) in the Firefox profile folder. See "Verify Integrity" on the about:support page (Help -> Troubleshooting Information).

My firefox just updated on its' own and lost ALL the bookmarks I had also with the exception of the bookmark tool bar at the top. As it turned out they really weren't gone they were just hidden. Now I can only see them if I use the Bookmark Sidebar. Check for your bookmarks there.

Hi CNCman, Firefox 57 is a different case. It ships without the bookmarks menu button on the toolbar. You can add it from Customize, or use the "Library" button as described in the article linked below:

Unfortunately, I don't think that will help with the original issue in this thread...
