Firefox used to open directly to my igoogle homepage. Now I have to sign in every time I open Firefox new. This does not happen on Chrome or IE, which are able to remember my information. Sometimes I have to type the entire user name and password. Other times typing the first letter of the user name prompts the program to enter the full name and password. I can see no pattern to this.

Websites remembering you and automatically log you on is stored in a cookie.

  • Create an allow cookie exception (Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: Exceptions) to keep such a cookie, especially for secure websites and if cookies expire when Firefox is closed.

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in Private Browsing mode.

Do not use Clear Recent History to clear the "Cookies" and the "Site Preferences"

Clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, and passwords.

Firefox is set up to accept cookies. The Exceptions are a list of sites that are blocked; none of them is Mozilla or Firefox, so I'm not blocking Mozilla cookies. I do not have Private Browsing Mode turned on. Clear Recent History, a button I have never used, is not set to clear either Site Preferences or Cookies.

As I mentioned in my original post, sometimes the sign in mechanism remembers my name after I start typing it. In other words, I type the letter t, and it fills in the whole name, along with password. Other times it does not do this. This says to me that it is remembering something. I have read on the web about deleting the Firefox cookie, but I don't know where this is, or how to do it.
