I don't have time to figure out what's wrong with TB on win 10 64 bit machine. Would someone on Mozilla team or a team try and fix this problem...it still exists, it's making my work harder and harder. If it doesn't happen soon, I will have to abandon TB as I've already had to Abandon Firefox with lots of the same issues.

Is anyone there trying to fix these issues instead of trying to give us more features we don't need or use?

You have AVG and CCleaner and are having issues. How unusual is one way to put it.

Back in 2012 I identified ccleaner as the tool that was deleting some of Thunderbird's configuration files. It is a while since I tested it again, but it was doing it a year or so ago on version 5.29 when I revisited the issue.

My blog posting on that is here https://thunderbirdtweaks.blogspot.com.au/2012/06/thunderbird-and-ccleaner-or-my-settings.html

AVG has become in itself problematical, this may be due to it being acquired by Avast. that was a year ago https://blog.avast.com/avast-and-avg-become-one

So things you need to seriously consider are.

  • Create an exception in Avast/AVG for the windows temp folder from scanning nsmail.htm files.
  • Create an exception in Avast/AVG for the folders mail and IMAP mail in your Thunderbird profile folder. as well as the sqlite database files in your profile folder.

general issues with avast here probably now apply to AVG. as well as the AVG issues listed here https://wiki.mozilla.org/Thunderbird:Testing:Antivirus_Related_Performance_Issues#AVG

You do not mention much. All the forum knows is you have Win 10 OS 64 bit and have issues with Thunderbird.

re :I don't have time to figure out what's wrong with TB on win 10 64 bit machine. Would someone on Mozilla team or a team try and fix this problem...it still exists, it's making my work harder and harder.

You are using a free product and people who offer help are doing so in their free unpaid time, so it would be expected that if you want help then you must put time in.

However, at this point, you have failed to mention a few very important things including the complete ommission of whatever is the issue.

What version of Thunderbird are you using? Confirm you are using desktop version and not portable version. Do you use pop or imap mail accounts or both ? Is the issue only experienced on one or all accounts? What issues are you talking about?

What anti-virus product are you using? Do you use program such as something like 'CCleaner' ?

For each issue: What are you doing? What are you trying to achieve? What occurs ? Do you get an error message, if yes, what does it say word for word.

Do you get the same issue after booting up computer in 'Safe mode with Networking'? If yes, Do you get the same issue in Thunderbird Safe Mode? https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/safe-mode-thunderbird

I've looked at all the fixes for TB trying to stop the hang ups which are going on with TB since vers. 51 and 52 started happening. I'm using 52.4 now...auto update for TB is on. Been using TB since 2.3 or earlier.

I have desktop TB. 64 bit computer using TB 32bit (don't find a 64bit vers.) Windows 10 vers. 1706, build 15063.674. 64bit. I use IMAP with gmail.

I've tried rebooting in safe mode. changed TB to safe mode with extensions turned off. Turned off Windows search (which slows up openning of Office 2016 pro plus files). Jump lists don't work well with Win Search turned off.

TB continues in each of these, to hang up for 30 or more seconds. Sometimes opening an email, sometimes while moving an email to a folder, Often when downloading emails green arrow takes forever to function, thus can't go to an email arriving immediately...have to wait a long time for the green arrow to connect with email. Sometimes I'm unable to delete a message without a hangup. Often have to wait a minute or so for TB to begin working again, or shut it down and open it again. When opening again, the last operation is completed, and I can go on with work...until it hangs again. Opening attachment submissions for publication also sometimes hangs TB and it takes forever to open Word and PDFs sent to me.

Lots of hangups are continuing with 52.4.

I use AVG and CCleaner along with a plethora of graphic programs, search programs, databases, PaperPort, all part of my editing job with deadlines. All but PhotoPlusX8 work just fine and fast. TB is frustratingly slow.

Hope this helps. I've worked with computers since Digilog and CPM operating systems. Haven't had this kind of problem since Windows Millenium.
