After Thunderbird is running for a while, it "freezes" with a message saying it is no longer responding. When I click on shut it down it says it is reporting this to windows . After shutting it down windows 10 basically reboots (it takes a while) before I can click on the Thunderbird icon again. Been happening for several weeks.

Until I tried to set a task 5 minutes in size (I am logging timeboxing rather than setting things in advance) and the visual block had a minimum size that made it overlap even though the times don't (had this issue super heavily with google calendar, thought this could be the saviour but ig not). I'm not a C++/JS programmer I only know lua, html and css so I could take a look at the source code but I've also never built anything and I'm not sure if this will be as easy as tweaking a value.

If anyone has expertise and it doesn't take them that much time I would appreciate it if you could send a build where the event block can be visually any size you set it to. Thanks either way

I suppose the best place to start is when/where I think this problem started. Approx three to four weeks ago my thunderbird program stopped downloading emails from my server (Spectrum/RR). I say Approx because the problem sort of sneaked up on me without me realizing it was there.

I was using W7 and my hard drive was pretty much full and I was constantly getting messages that my email could not be downloaded due to lack of space. I started deleting stored emails and emptying the trash, which sort of kept me up and running for the past couple weeks. All this time my Gmail account continued to work as it should, downloading every email that was sent to me, but the Spectrum/RR account was spotty at best.

So today I fired up a new W11 computer for the first time. One of the first programs I installed was Thunderbird. When I attempted to set up an account using Spectrum/RR the process failed. I typed in all of the correct information, Name, Email, and Password but the account will not finalize. Instead, I continue to get the same message that the Configuration, Username or Password is incorrect.

I have since successfully logged into my Spectrum/RR web mail, so I know the username and password I am using is correct. I have also talked with Spectrum Technical support, and they have verified that what I am using to log in is correct.

I hope I didn't ramble on to much and someone can help me !

At about the time of the most recent update to Thunderbird my wife's computer started running Thunderbird all wrong. A large chunk of old messages vanished, but not the oldest, and when she deletes a message it vanishes instead of going into a Deleted file. The old messages are still on the server, but Thunderbird will not download them again, I assume because it thinks she already has them. They are there, though. I installed her email on my version of Thunderbird and it promptly downloaded all 330 of them. I assumed something went wrong in the update so I thought if I uninstalled Thunderbird and reinstalled it, all would go back to normal. I have done so with both a warm and a cold reboot after uninstalling and in both cases when I open Thunderbird, there is her account, faults and all. So the question is "How do I get rid of Thunderbird completely, so that it needs the mail-box reloaded as well?" It is beyond me why what I have done doesn't work. Is there some other way to get the program working like it used to? My wife is about as technophobic as they come and takes a long time to learn something new so please can we go back to the way we were? We are both in our 80s so new tech is sometimes a challenge. Any help you can give us, in simple language please, would be appreciated. I don't want to convert her to Access as I have never used it and wouldn't know how to teach her. Thank you, Peter

In Thunderbird I have an *@live.co.uk account" However when I open TB this account does not refresh. I went to "Saved Passwords" and it asks me for a PIN. The dialog box is headed "Mozilla Thunderbird"; "verify your identity to reveal the saved passwords" This is new to me as I had just opened "Saved Passwords" but on a reboot I get this message. I guess this is a new feature.

I did not know I had a PIN for TB.

I tried "I forgot my PIN". That says "You can reset your PIN by going to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options" I can't find that option General, Composition or Privacy and Security

can anyone please advise?

Yesterday and today, the same emails kept downloading every time I asked for new messages. As some have suggested, I deleted the global-messages-db.sqlite file and restarted Thunderbird. Only messages before 3-27-2023 appeared. If I fetched messages from the server, it brought in only a few of yesterday's messages. After rebooting, it would download today's messages, but all those before 8/2/24 and 3-27-23 are missing. How can I recover them?

First off you should warn that this version changes your profile, so there is no going back. I installed it and have lost ALL of my accounts and had to start from scratch. It took me back to the beginning. I hate the interface, too cluttered, to busy and generally sucks. I am thinking of dumping thunderbird at many, many years of using it.

This is a very strange issue. Some of the messages in my inbox, when selected do not display the message itself. Blank box. I looked at the message source and there is nothing displayed but white space in the box. The messages that are not displaying are before 3 August 24 and back in time to the year 2018. Those messages received in 2018 appear correctly.

Messages received after midnight (12:01 AM) 3 August display fine. Message source view displays the contents.

On that computer, I have other email accounts that display the messages correctly. Nothing missing. So whatever happened, only one email address account was affected. It is like something deleted that data.

Running Windows 10 Pro and latest version of Thunderbird. No extensions

Anyone that can inform me as to what might have caused this and tell me if it can be fixed, I would be greatly appreciative.

Thank you

Hello. Through sfhowes' generous advice, my Thunderbird is now connecting to my hotmail/outlook accounts. However, something strange is happening. When I launch Thunderbird, I get the password prompt that I show in the images. The message seems to be coming from Microsoft. This happens for every account I have in Thunderbird. It's rather a nuisance. Then, after I enter the password, the pane disappears but I get the error/warning message from Thunderbird (I suppose) that I show in the second image. Does anyone, please, know what's going on and how I could fix it? Thanks, Barry.

Background: I've been using Thunderbird for desktop for a couple of years now, and had no trouble with it. I use it to connect to email inboxes from a hosting provider. In the past, one of them was going through Google Workspace email (linked to my own domain), but I decided to go with Thunderbird instead. I did connect to Gmail once (if I recall correctly), to download emails from there. Then, all the mail server settings were set to those of my hosting company/my domain and worked well.

Today, after starting it up, I received a notification of a Thunderbird update (new looks, new nesting of connected emails, card-like look of emails), and I received a prompt to log in to the long-defunct Gmail account. I closed the window and went searching for the reason. All my mailing server settings seem to be fine. In the Thunderbird settings, in the Privacy&Security tab, Passwords section, I found several saved passwords relating to said defunct account. I deleted them all in hopes of solving the issue. Unfortunately, this only changed the prompt: from asking me to sign in to the specifically-named defunct account, it's now asking me to sign into Google account in general while the popup's header still refers to the defunct account. I also went ahead and downloaded the newest update. My Thunderbird seemed already updated judging by the version number, though none of the new features seem to be enabled, and some note mentioned that it's not an automatic update but one that had to be downloaded. Unfortunately, it didn't help either. The PC had been restarted. The pop up appears shortly (~1 min) after the startup, and then at random points of Thunderbird being open.

I'm out of options and at a loss of how to get rid of that constant pop up, and I feel like I'm missing something obvious. I hope someone here might help.

Extensions appear and disappear when accessing Thunderbird 128.0.1esr from two computers

Environment: Windows 10 22H2, Thunderbird 128.0.1esr 64-bit on two different PC's, "A" and "B".

Scenario and steps to reproduce:

(1) On "A", installed extension "remove duplicate messages" (version compatible with Tbird 128). Works fine. Profile on this PC is D:\Alice\Thunderbird\Main.

(2) Completely get out of Thunderbird on "A".

(3) On "B", launch Thunderbird accessing the same profile residing on "A" as mounted drive, "Q:\Alice\Thunderbird\Main". Mail, calendar, etc work fine. However, the extension is not available (No "Remove Duplicates" on context menu or Tools menu). On Tools :: Extensions and Themes, extension shows up with a blank (empty) icon.

(4) On "B", disable the extension, close the "Extensions and Themes" tab and completely get out of Thunderbird. Re-launch Thunderbird, go to Tools :: Extensions and Themes, and the icon has reappeared. After re-enabling the extension, it is active and works flawlessly.

(5) Then, completely get out of Thunderbird on "B".

(6) On "A", launch Thunderbird. It now exhibits the same behaviour for the extension: it is not available, and the icon is blank. Performing the same steps as in step (4) above restores the extension to its working state. And, you have probably guessed by now, it is no longer working on "B" !

Just to make sure this is not specific to this particular extension ("remove duplicate messages"), I installed another extension ("Quicktext"), and it behaves exactly the same (either singly, or with "remove duplicate messages" still installed).

So, it seems that you cannot use extensions from the same profile accessed via two different paths, one PC accessing it via a local drive and another accessing it via a mounted drive. I want to re-interate, before someone asks, that Thunderbird is completely down on one PC before I try to access the profile on the other PC.

Has anyone seen this behaviour on Tbird 128 ?

Thanks.

Since that last update (128.0) I can hardly tell the difference between read and unread messages. Particularly when there are just a few messages of the same kind with no basis for comparison. I've looked through previous threads and found some solutions that involve modifying scripts. I had ChatGpt help me with the maneuver , but it didn't change anything. I would also be satisfied with another font in the headline or another background color - just something that ensure sure I do not miss an important mail in the stack.

Hi,

I have been using Thunderbird happily for a long time, most recently version 115.13.0 on my Ubuntu 22.04 partition. Recently I installed Ubuntu 24.04 on another partition, including Thunderbird 128.0esr, now installed as a snap package (it's a recent change in Ubuntu; instead of apt package previously).

The new Thunderbird correctly reads my emails (imap) but it cannot send emails, save drafts or mark emails as read on the server. So I have Thunderbird 115 on the old partition working perfectly, but Thunderbird 128 not working on the same GMail account (I also have the same problem with another non-GMail account). I checked the smtp settings carefully, they are identical between the two versions.

It's possible I made a mistake, but I'm at a loss about what is wrong. How can I diagnose and solve this problem?

(I know that I could reinstall Thunderbird with the apt package, but I assume that the snap package should work too and I would like to understand the cause)

I'd be grateful for any advice
