I have a "read later" bookmark folder in my bookmark bar. when i add something to that i want the entry to go to the top of the folder so when i want to check out my read later list I don't have to scroll down for ages for the most recent item.

You can also drag the link to the top of this folder to create the bookmark. You can use the sidebar or the Bookmarks Menu button of the Bookmarks menu.
You can drag the Bookmarks Menu button that shows the bookmarks in a drop-down list and drag the Library button that gives access to recent bookmarks and history from the Customize palette to the Navigation Toolbar. The Bookmarks Menu button has a "View bookmarks sidebar" menu item.
