I had a virus on my computer so I had to reimage it, wiping out everything and starting new. I lost all my bookmarks (thankfully, I wrote them down before reimaging). Is there a way to email myself a file which contains my bookmarks, which I can then use to reload my bookmarks?

Yep. There are actually dozens of ways to do this using 3rd party addons, apps and web-based solutions. But if you want to keep things simple and just use Firefox's built-in features:

  1. Open up your bookmarks manager window by going to "Bookmarks" > "Show All Bookmarks" (or just hold down "shift + apple + B").
  2. At the top of the window you'll see a 5-pointed-star icon with a tiny recycling symbol on it. (See attached screenshot.) Click that and you'll see five options. The two that you want are: "Backup..." (which creates a .json file) and "Export Bookmarks to HTML..." (which creates an .html file). You'll find more info about those two options (such as when to use which) here: [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Backing_up_and_restoring_bookmarks_-...]
  3. Now that you have your bookmarks in a portable format you can email the file to yourself, store it in the cloud, keep a copy on a flash drive -- or whatever your favorite method of file backup / redundancy is.

Hope that helps!

Hi jodaa,

I would suggest that you make a complete back up your personal information and bookmarks, just in case. You can find details in the article Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles. You should be able to email them or copy them to a USB stick for safe keeping

Hopefully this helps! Good luck!
