this started happening a few weeks ago and recurs even when I set preferences to always open on firefox home page as default. The only way I can seem to return to my usual homepage is to happen to be on line when I get a message like "someone is trying to change your home page". If I catch it a click "abort" all is well till the next time. thanks C

Usually a malware will produce this result. The most basic ones will replace your homepage by simply altering the command launched by your shortcut (icon). You can check that by right-clicking the icon you use to launch Firefox and looking at the command used (field "Target").

Though it also means that your computer has an hijacker (a program altering the behavior of another program).

It is not related to Firefox specifically, if you use Internet Explorer you will certainly get the same result.

Consider running some anti-malware program on your computer to find the culprit.

Are you using Windows? Can you do a right-click on your Firefox Icon and check the properties? From there you should find the exact command run to launch Firefox, there might be a hint of what's going on.

Please, return to us with what you find.

the message is "another app is trying to change your home page", If I catch it when it comes up, I can "abort" I'm not sure what you mean by properties. I have preferences.. .and have repeatedly noted that I want my home page to stay as firefox, but it continues to revert to one I don't want
