Firefox was working fine yesterday. But all of a sudden while playing a youtube video it started being choppy. It drops frames, scrolling and video playback are choppy and laggy, there is lag on button inputs, the system is choppy and laggy too while firefox is open, especially when video is playing. I checked the CPU and GPU usage and I can't see any spikes. I have tried refreshing firefox but that did not fix the problem.

OS is manjaro linux (gnome version) latest. Firefox is also at the latest version.

Try downloading Firefox from Mozilla, run it from the folder and see if you have the same issue. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/#product-desktop-release

Try the following options to fix your issue :

Option1 = Clear your private data to prevent memory leaks

- Click the "Firefox" button, hover over "History," then click "Clear Recent History." Click the arrow next to "Details," then select the data you want to delete such as "Cookies" and "Cache." Select "Today" or "Everything" from the time-range menu. If Firefox has been lagging for some time, select a longer duration.

Option2 = Update your add-ons, and uninstall any you no longer want or need

- Click the "Firefox" button, then select "Add-ons." Click the "Extensions" tab, select the "Gear" icon, then click "Check for Updates" to check for updates to all your add-ons simultaneously. Install any available updates, then restart Firefox

Option3 = Close any excess tabs to lower the amount of memory Firefox is using. Firefox may begin to slow down as you open more tabs, so restrict the number of tabs you use to those you need.
