Greetings,

    A few days ago I opened Firefox and it crashed on start up. I updated to the latest version, installed the latest version of flash, but it was still crashing on start up. I started in safemode, turned off hardware acceleration and it's been fine but I get screen tearing when watching Twitch. I went to the Firefox reddit and submitted my crash report, they said it's something to do with a font.

Here is my most recent crash report - https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/cd2d03af-e9a6-49bb-ae13-87c4e2160604

Someone suggested Font Validator for Windows but there are 280 fonts and each takes roughly 15 minutes to scan. And once it scans for errors, I have no clue what to look for or what the errors even mean.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Can you attach a screenshot of the font issue?

  • use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot
  • make sure you do not exceed the maximum size of 1 MB

You can right-click and select "Inspect Element" to open the Inspector ("3-bar" menu button or Tools > Web Developer) with this element selected. You can check the font used for selected text in the Font tab in the right pane of the Inspector.

I have the most recent Nvidia Graphics Driver. Unless I should do a clean install.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac=Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh).

Is the problem still there?

Safemode runs fine, it's how I'm able to turn Hardware Acceleration off.

Is the problem solved?

Turning off Hardware Acceleration fixes the crashing, yes, but as stated above now I'm getting terrible screen tearing when watching videos on Twitch or Youtube. I'd like to know why HA is causing Firefox to crash so I can fix it. I linked the crash report above, so why is it causing it to crash?

From Mozilla help files;

Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
