When compacting, I get an alert that asks me to verify that I enough disc space and that I have write privalages to the file system. How do I do this?

Mozilla asks me if I want to compact, I click 'yes' and after a while I get this: Alert The folder 'inbox' could not be compacted because writing to folder failed.Verify that you have enough disc space, and that you have write privileges to the file system, then try again.

I have no idea what to do know. Please can someone help me?
