popup suggestions fropm last text entered
password option popup shows up at all text boxes. if no passwords saved for site, last text entered pops up
started a couple of weeks ago -- tried troubleshoot mode, etc as suggested in help.

Sounds like Firefox thinks this is a case of a multi-page login form and thus offers to fill the username. This multi-page login form feature got enabled in Firefox 94. You can disable this feature via the about:config page.
- about:config => signon.usernameOnlyForm.enabled = false
You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can click the button to "Accept the Risk and Continue".
