In order to cleanly launch Thunderbird, I had to manually move my imapmail, and mail folders, and the abook file (that I backed up as part of the Roaming/Thunderbird/*.* folders/files into the profile that was created from the new Thunderbird install. To my knowledge this was bot articulated anywhere in any of the web and/or mozilla/thunderbird help resources.

That is what is supposed to work in your circumstance. Moving IMAP and POP mail without the supporting accounts information from preferences is truly hit and miss usually miss.

Likewise moving address books is not possible to book other than the default personal address book and the collected addresses because the others are defined in preferences.
