I bought a s/mime cert from globalsign and digicert both. Neither cert is recognized by Thunderbird when I try to send a signed email. The certs are correctly installed.

This just started happening when my old cert expired. What could be going wrong?

Rather than show the error dialog, what shown in the account settings in the End to end encryption information. Does the information there include the serial number, or just the email address. If just the email address, try restating the correct certificate.
