How can I make Firefox Android to always select the whole URL when I tap the URL bar

I use Firefox Android (newest version) on my OnePlus 8 Pro (Android updated to the newest version).

Usually when I browse the net, I tap the URL bar whenever I wanna head to another website on another domain (for example from google.com to youtube.com). I don't like to close the tab and open a new one as that's slower. I could tap the URL bar and immediately typ the new URL on my touch keyboard as the current URL would be already selected so typing the first characters of the domain name (for example 'you' for youtube.com) would replace the whole URL and autofill would then suggest the full URL so I could press Enter on my keyboard afterwards.

Some behaviour changed some versions ago. Now I can do that most of the time but *sometimes* tapping the URL bar does not select the whole URL. Instead, autofill will suggest a sub URL of the page I'm currently on and typing on my keyboard will only replace the additional part of the URL autofill suggests. If I wanna leave the website and go to a completely new one, I will have to manually delete the whole URL and start typing afterwards.

---

Look at the two images I've uploaded: Image "A" directly shows how it looks after I've tapped on the URL bar: I'm on URL "https://ytforum.de/f" which is a German board about youtube. Autofill suggests I could browse to "https://ytforum.de/f/unread-thread-list", which is their URL to display all unread topics of the board. As you can see, there's two different colors for the highlight of the selection. The left part which is the URL I'm currently on is highlighted with a grey color (red 1) while the new part suggested from autofill ("unread-thread-list", blue 2) is highlighted with a purle-ish color.

When I type "youtube" on my keyboard, I would now expect the whole URL to be replaced with youtube and autofill to suggest youtube.com, which is how it worked some versions ago. However, the first letter ("y") will cause the purple selection (blue 2) to be deleted while the letters afterwards ("outube") will be added to the already existing URL I'm currently on (red 1).

The result can be seen in image "B": the URL after typing "youtube" is now "https://ytforum.de/f/outube" which is not what I would ever expect and also it's not the site I want to go to. Please pay attentio to the "y" of "youtube" not being in the URL as this key acted like a delete press, only deleting the suggestion.

How can I make the URL bar to consistently ALWAYS select the whole URL on firefox android?

---

I also want to point out that this bug apparently only occures when you're on a sub path of a URL. For example this behaviour does NOT occur when I am only on "https://ytforum.de". It only occurs when I am on "https://ytforum.de/f" and it also only occurs on other sites when I'mn NOT on the top level of the domain. I also don't wish to turn off autofill completely. It's a very useful tool I use all the time to navigate to pages faster, I don't wanna miss it.

Please let me know if you need more information.

Hi

If you long press the address bar, an option should appear that will allow you to copy the full website address.

Maybe I didn't explain it properly, so I made a video showing the bug.

I want this fixed, is there a way to prevent this weird behaviour from happening? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GkgeQe3iKcQ

I don't want to copy the full website address, I want to enter a new one but sometimes the address bar has odd behaviour.
