hi!

suddenly i can no longer send emails. i haven't changed anything on my end, though i did run through the trouble shooting you suggest - none of it helped...

this happened for the first time about 2 weeks ago - and it corrected itself when i restarted thunderbird. this time that option isn't working/helping.

this is the error message:

Sending of the message failed. The Outgoing server (SMTP) smtpauth.earthlink.net does not seem to support encrypted passwords. If you just set up the account, try changing the 'Authentication method' in 'Account settings | Outgoing server (SMTP)' to 'Normal password'.

thanks!!

There have been several people reporting this issue for sending with earthlink. But in all cases so far, the common denomination has been people not using the smtp settings as stated by earthlink.

I do not know if earthlink have changed the smtp settings, but according to their information on their website, you should be using the following settings:

  • outgoing server (SMTP): smtpauth.earthlink.net
  • Port: 587
  • Connection Security: STARTTLS
  • Authentication Method: Normal Password
  • User name: email address

After changing settings, restart Thunderbird.
