Forwarding e-mails manually between e-mail addresses does not work - related to Oct. 30, 2020 Thunderbird update?

more options

Hi! New user here. My problem is this: as of Oct. 30, 2020 I can no longer manually Forward e-mails from my current email provider to my Gmail address, via Thunderbird on my PC. When Forwarding manually, I get an Error message saying "The other party (=Gmail? Thunderbird?) uses a version of security protocol not supported by (unknown party, maybe Thunderbird, my current e-mail provider or Gmail). Configuration related to Mailout function at my current e-mail provider must be corrected". Manually chosen Forward command has worked perfectly before. Manually Forwarding an e-mail as Attachment does not work either. My current e-mail provider advises me that this problem might be related to changes to Thunderbird announced on Oct. 29 or 30. I just saw that info when I logged in to my Thunderbird today. Would be grateful for any help on the subject. Please note: 1/ Automatic Forwarding from my current email provider to Gmail works fine. 2/ When I Right-Click on an email in the Inbox for my current email provider, I can choose the Move To function and send the specific email from my current email provider to my Gmail through Thunderbird. This works fine. At the same time, a copy of my Autoresponse message about changing my e-mail address is sent from my current email provider to my Gmail address. 3/ Sending an e-mail from my webmail page, at my current email provider website, to the relevant Inbox in my Thunderbird works fine. Thanks in advance for any info!

The 'security protocol' error suggests the mail server of the sending account doesn't support the version of TLS now required in TB 78. See this post for a workaround:

Thank you very much for your answer sfhowes!

A follow-up question:

When opening my soon-to-be deleted Webmail account, on my current email provider´s site (not in my Thunderbird window), I can manually Forward a specific email to my Gmail, and the email is viewable in Thunderbird. Does this tell you anything new about my problem?

Re: item 2/ in my above message: As stated under 2/ above, when I open my old Webmail account (with my current email provider) in my Thunderbird window, I can choose a specific email in my Inbox, then open the Right-Click menu on the email, and use the Move To function (different from Forward) to send this specific email from my old Webmail account to my Gmail. The specific email appears in my Gmail Inbox in my Thunderbird window. I just saw that the email heading now has the prefix "Fwd:". Has this any bearing on my problem?

Re: the workaround info you linked to in your answer: what specific info there should I refer to, as a layman, if I should want to discuss this problem with my current email provider or a local PC maintenance firm? Should I refer to "security.tls.version.min =(change to relevant digit)" and "security.tls.version.enable-deprecated = true"?

Again, many thanks in advance for any info! Hope I have explained myself clearly. The text about item 2/ is slightly rephrased from my original message, hopefully more clearly worded.

If you are in contact with your mail provider, suggest they update their TLS software to version 1.2 or 1.3. Those 'new' versions have been available for years.
