I had two Inboxes but I only had subfolders in my Yahoo box. I seldom get any mail in my Gmail box. Now, all of a sudden, the subfolders in my Yahoo box are mirrored in the Gmail box. It's a nightmare to deal with all of this Junk several times a day every day. Deleting subfolders in Gemail does not seem to work. Do you actually want me to delete my G-mail account in order to get rid of the uselesss subfolders?

It seems to me that you don't like the way Thunderbird works. Maybe it would be better to look for another email client.

Your replication of messages from one account into another is very odd. I doubt there would be an easy answer to that question, other than tearing down Thunderbird completely and re-installing from scratch.

My Junk and Trash folders all have an "empty" option under the right-click pop-up menu. I can't explain why yours have lost this feature. Holding down shift whilst deleting would delete instantly without going to Trash. But I would never ever empty a Junk folder sight unseen as all junk filters make mistakes.

You can merge Inboxes if you're prepared to use POP and the Global Inbox option. You can also nominate common Sent, Junk and Trash folders for all accounts to share.

There are many tools at your disposal in Thunderbird to manage multiple accounts, find unread messages, etc. But I sense you would not have the patience or motivation to learn about them.

It's too bad that you have nothing helpful to say but instead choose to defame me for wanting ONE Inbox.

Until now, I have aways had two Inboxes but, I had only one of each Subfolder. For example, I had one Folder called "Family" where I put all messages regarding genealogy and family news. I had one Subfolder named "Games" where I keep anything relating to games, one for Bills, one for Crafts, etc. Now I have the same subfolders repeated in each Inbox making it hard to organize my mail. Why must I search for items? Thunderbird is now a big mess and I am having a hard time finding anything. I have been offline for most of the past two weeks because my roof was destroyed by Irma. At last the roof has been repaired/replaced and I can again go online but, my Mail is a nightmare of unbelievable proportions! It may take almost as long to straighten this mess of inboxes and repeated subfolders as it has taken to get a new roof (maybe longer because the mail keeps coming). And, I am not nearly done with the house because I still have to clean up all of the damages under the repaired roof. The e-mail keeps arriving and I need to find those that have to do with bills and damages as I am having to pay for all of my repairs as FEMA did NOT declare my location a disaster. I also spent 3 days in the hospital and am recovering from that as well. None of this can be helped except that possibly the e-mail could have been better organized. I just feel as though there is no end to my problems and now, I have your nasty attitude as well. I apologize for the Rant but I am almost at my limit and the e-mail is a nightmare I really don't need.

Your Thunderbird is behaving abnormally and I can't suggest a quick fix for the peculiar duplication. The "no brainer" suggestions would be to check that there is no automatic collection or forwarding set up at either server and there is no filtering going on in Thunderbird. But none of these seem likely if it has just spontaneously started out of nowhere.

You can have all your stuff "in one place" but you have to set up all the accounts to use POP and then set them all to use the Global Inbox. That sorts out all the incoming; you still have to go to each account's settings to adjust it to use the common Sent, Trash and Junk folders.

If you're set up already using IMAP then converting to POP could be quite disruptive. And you might still have this inexplicable duplication going on.

So yes, you can have what you asked for but there would be some effort and pain involved in setting it up. But I don't think that is the real solution to your email problems. And there is no silver bullet for spam. :-(

I'm sorry to hear about your troubles. But how is anyone to tell if you are just impatient, or OTOH justifiably annoyed with misbehaving software adding to existing problems?

PS. I use View|Folders|Unread to check all my unread mail. This means I have no reason or need to force all new messages into one Inbox. Much less pain than rebuilding all my accounts to use the common Inbox.

Thank you so much! This is helpful, I had not considered looking for View/Folders/Unread. Very helpful solution for now and maybe I can somehow get these Subfolders in order. My mailboxes have filled to overflowing while I had my roof fixed and the result is an overwhelming nightmare of mailboxes filled with some "good" mail and a lot of Junk. The only thing worse than my e-mail is the mess in my house. https://www.flickr.com/photos/bribling/albums/72157687269311374

Never mind the email issues and the damage to your house. Are the cats all right? ;-)
