Have transferred my thunderbird programme to my new computer because the old computer crashed. The new downloaded programme is asking for a password which I cannot remember- can you please help.

It would be asking for the password to your email account. Your email password is between you and your email provider. You will have to work with them to reset your forgotten password. Most providers have a link to reset passwords on their email help page.
