How do I add space when repling to an email so it's not so cramped?

I just updated to the latest version of Thunderbird and now when I reply to an email, there is not enough space between my response and the former message. How do I add more space so I can see what I am typing more clearly? Right now it is cramped.

I understand I can do it manually, but the old program automatically had space when replying so I'm looking to reconfigure the composition to accommodate this preference.
