how can i remove firefox completely on osx?

more options

I had some trouble with add-ons so I wanted to completely remove Firefox and start with a freshly downloaded version. So I manually deleted the files as described on this page: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Uninstalling_Firefox#Removing_user_profile_data

But after installing a new version of Firefox it won't start and it keeps telling me my profile is missing.

I'm sorry to say you did this the wrong way.

What you should have done is; Reset Firefox
This would have removed all add-ons and restored all settings to factory fresh.
