It is a small icon to the right of awesome bar. And there is a number displayed on the icon, sometimes it changes. I am wondering what it means.

Probably related to the "button" to the left (or right) of that number. Hard to see what those buttons might be for due to the theme that you are using.

Try disabling some extensions to figure out which extension added that number. Or post a list of your installed extensions, and maybe someone will be able to identify the culprit.

Well, the left is Autoproxy and the right HTTPS Everywhere. I will try disabling one and have a test
