A few weeks ago I noticed the restore tab button was gone and there was no way to restore them. Sometimes my last tabs would be there automatically and sometimes not. Today all my bookmarks are gone. I tried to restore them and got the message: Unable to process the backup file. This is horrible! 1. Could it be related to Advanced System Care, something I downloaded recently for maintenance? 2. How can I get my browser to work again like it used to? 3. And how can I get my bookmarks back? Thanks!

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.

Can you clarify what you mean with the "restore tab button"

Is this about restoring closed tabs (History > Recently Closed Tabs/Windows or restoring tabs and windows from the previous session (History > Restore Previous Session) or something else?

The restore previous session is what I meant. I'm not sure how to do what you've suggested, but will try to figure it out as soon as I get back to my computer in a couple of hours. Thanks!

You can reset browser.sessionstore.* prefs that are user set (bold) to the default value via the right-click context menu on the about:config page to make sure that Session Restore is enabled and working properly.

In case you are using "Clear history when Firefox closes":

  • do not clear the Browsing History

Note that clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, and passwords.
