Firefox will NOT uninstall now that US Search.com was added in error using OpenOffice.org I want Firefox OFF my computer - it is adding users to my ADMIN accnt

more options

I went to add Open Office - as my daughter (35) said "its free" - and it added US search.com as a toolbar on Firefox - I DO NOT USE FIREFOX *But* Java adds it to my desktop (GRRRR) each time they update. IT SITS THERE! Open Office would not let me uncheck anything *they* wanted added - and Firefox is the ONLY one I cannot change the toolbar on. Each time I try to uninstall YOUR program it refuses on admin prividges - its MY computer MY ADMIN! I want YOUR program and this toolbar off my computer. They added themselves as users under ADMIN and I had to change my computer pw to kick them off !

System restore did NOT get rid of Firefox that was not on there in July when I set back my computer. HELP ME REMOVE YOUR PROGRAM I DON"T USE AND THIS STUPID TOOLBAR THAT IS SPYWAREING THE HECK AND BACK OUT OF MY COMPUTER - bypassing ALL my protects !

I assume you have tried the steps in this article: Uninstall Firefox from your computer.

What is your operating system?

  • None* of this works and I use Windows 7 (as I stated in my e-mail) 64 bit .

When I try to uninstall from control panel > programs open> scroll to Firefox> hit uninstall and watch it sit there laughing at me (ok it doesn't laugh it does *nothing* - when I try the steps stated in the article - nothing happens - it sits there like the lame duck it is ! It is *not* meant for older computers that have been upgraded to the max for alpha testing games - and my vid card has nothing to do with this uninstall issue so I have NO clue why i mentioned it.

I *never - *ever* use Firefox - I don't want it - tired of it bundled with other programs and due to ONE error in going to Open Office .org (don't go there) it auto installs a BHO which opens in Firefox as US search.com (alert - this IS a virus) *so* now I can't uninstall and I have to change my password to the computer itself to bump the "extra admin user" off my computer (its fun - sarcasm - don't try it at home or with any computer unless you absolutely hate the person whose computer you are using) !

  • This* is what I get for listening to a 35 yr old daughter "who has Open Office Mom" (grrrrrrr). Nothing like having my download and upload speed killed by another I don't know . My only saving grace was the computer is basically up all the time - and they didn't get my password ! So bumping them off by changing the pw - doing a system restore - which caused my original pw to come back - has caused them to "go away" temporarily ! Now to get this off my computer so they can't come back !

Some "free" software isn't completely free. The normal installation of Firefox is wired up to Google, per an agreement between Mozilla and Google. What you ended up with is someone's unofficial bundle. But to get to the point:

DELETE the following folders:

(1) Firefox program folder

C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox

(2) Mozilla personal data folder

%APPDATA%\Roaming\Mozilla

Note: That's a shortcut to the following, in case that doesn't work:

C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla

(3) Mozilla cache folder

%APPDATA%\Local\Mozilla

Note: That's a shortcut to the following, in case that doesn't work:

C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Local\Mozilla

Finally, to remove annoying toolbars from your system, you may want to try some supplemental security scanners. These two tools are highly regarded:

Malwarebytes Anti-malware : http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free

SUPERAntiSpyware : http://www.superantispyware.com/

Any luck?
