I recently lost all my Tab Groups after updating Firefox and now I just lost them all again (a royal pain), after completing my regularly scheduled computer maintenance routine eg. System Diagnostics, Anti-Virus and Anti-Malaware. Come on!! Ya, of course these applications clear history, cookies and empty the trash, that's what there suppose to do. Surely you can keep the Tabs and their Groups out of that routine. I really like Firefox, but the tug from Chrome is getting stronger.

App (pinned) tabs and Tab Groups (Panorama) are stored as part of the session data in the file sessionstore.js in the Firefox profile folder.

Make sure that you do not use "Clear Recent History" to clear the "Browsing History" when Firefox is closed because that prevails and prevents Firefox from opening tabs from the previous session.

If you use cleanup software like CCleaner then check the settings for the Firefox application.
