Updated to Firefox 5 from 3.6.17 on G4 Mac; OS X 10.4.11, version 5 replaced 3.6.17, and now will not open ("unsupported" in the window), so I have no Firefox browser on board. I'd like to at least go back to 3.6.17. How can I do that?

Installation appeared to run as normal, dragged everything to applications folder, prompt asked if I wanted to replace older item in the folder (the 3.6.17 installed), I clicked yes. Now I no longer have access to Firefox at all because clicking the new icon results in a window message that it cannot launch because it is "unsupported", and the old version is replaced and no longer extant.

Firefox 3.6 versions are the last from Mozilla for PPC Macs. 3.6.23 is available here.

For older Macs that aren't supported in Firefox 4 / 5 / 6 /7, try TenFourFox for PowerPC's running Mac 10.4.11 & 10.5.8 .

I checked the minimum requirement specs before I attempted to download v.5, and saw nothing to indicate that the download shouldn't be successful. I have over 30gb of available hard drive space, and over 800mb of memory, plus I am running OS X 10.4.11 (latest 10.4 update). The hardware is old, G4 Mac Power PC, however the stated requirements for v.5 were all exceeded. What should I have been looking for? Given the rapidity of software advances and the increasing opportunities to have a repeat of this experience, I'd like to know how to avoid it in the future (not necessarily JUST with Mozilla products). I'm not a tech-head. Here's the "Hardware Overview" from the machine specs--

Machine Name: Power Mac G4 (AGP graphics)

 Machine Model:	PowerMac3,1
 CPU Type:	PowerPC G4 (2.9)
 Number Of CPUs:	1
 CPU Speed:	400 MHz
L2 Cache (per CPU):	1 MB
 Memory:	832 MB
 Bus Speed:	100 MHz
 Boot ROM Version:	3.2.2f1

As posted above, Firefox versions 4 and later require a Mac with an Intel processor and no longer run on a Mac with a PowerPC processor.
It says recommended, but it is now a requirement to have an Intel processor.
