Why is Firefox 6 so slow. I have to reload all my tabs. 3.6 was fine. What happened? And don't tell me it's my ISP.

Ever since I upgraded to Firefox 6, the browser loads so slowly. I have to reload every tab. It is very frustrating. One of the reasons I use FF is the speed. And don't me to check with my ISP, please.

Unfortunately Firefox 6 is not as good as it should be. I recommend you to use latest version of Firefox 3.6.x ,cause it's long release but fire fox 4 , 5 and 6 are short releases and not as good as they should be.

Hope for Firefox 7 !

I was about to give up on Firefox when....

But first: my platform is Vista 32-bit Home Premium. I also use Webroot's Window Washer which I have found indispensable for years for cleaning up caches, cookies, and other browser detritus that one thought was cleaned up. (Nobody's perfect.)

Anyway, Firefox 6 has really been getting on my nerves, most recently the long loading time, which was intermittent, and all the rest.

THEN - and this may work, as did for me, for those using the same Vista - I brought up the Control Panel, clicked on Programs and Features and - !!!!!!! - Firefox 5.0 was listed as a program along with Firefox 6.whatever - the latest version. Not good.

So I resurrected Internet Explorer and then uninstalled Firefox 5.0 from Programs and Features which also uninstalled 6.n.n. When Firefox started to uninstall and the question box came up asking if I wanted also to uninstall my preferences and profile - or whatever it says - I did not check the box, meaning, NO.

Then, using Window Washer to clean everything out of every browser crevice and black hole, I then went online and downloaded the latest Version of Firefox 6.

IT CURED EVERYTHING. It's working fine.

Then, of course, I ditched IE once again.

Firefox 5.0 should have been uninstalled when 6.0 was installed. Registries should have been updated to reflect this. I've seen this happen before with other programs when a new version has come along. Usually they use a "downloaded installation" file for each update which they refer back to when the new version comes in. If you don't have it, you'll be stuck with pieces of the old version in your registry which may or may not cause problems. I'm talking Vista, here, which has got to be the most fascist version of Windows MS has come up with.

I don't know how Firefox updates, but if you are paranoid like me about cleaning out browser junk and/or you use Norton 360 - and be careful with Window Washer - you may have cleaned out something you needed for the update. Or left something there.

I also highly recommend going over Norton with a fine tooth comb because it has a lot of unnecessary crap going on that you should just turn off, e.g. constantly checking your network under auto-protect is the default when you aren't even on a network, which, if you're a home, private user, you are not on.

This worked great. Used Revo uninstaller and Advanced sytem care and a fresh install of FF6. Brilliant.
