Until the authors update their add-ons to marke them compatible with Firefox 6, you can use the Add-on Compatibility Reporter to try re-enabling them yourself.

You can also downgrade to a previous version of Firefox from this archive, but please be warned that old version of Firefox have known security bugs that are fixed in later versions.

As already mentioned by mbrubeck you could try the Compatability Reporter Add On, if you download install and run that there is a possibility that you could force the problem add-ons to run, and be able to test them.

What are the toolbar add-ons that are causing a problem, and which version are they ? (There is a possibility some Add-ons will br upgraded so they work with Firefox 6.) Possibly the most likely Add-ons or Extensions to cause problems may relate to security products. (Such plugins may be additions to the core security program)

Specifically, I have Norton Internet Security toolbar.

I did the Compatibility Report thing, and it did not help.

I contacted Norton, via online chat. They do not yet have a compatible update for Firefox v6.0, but they are working on it, and will update my Norton Internet Security software when it becomes available.

Until then I will keep v6.0, and rely upon my memory, and those important ones that I wrote down.

Your plugins list shows that you have the Mozilla ActiveX plugin installed.

the-edmeister posted recently about the patch that Norton released today. you should be able to update your Norton Software so that is works with Firefox 6.

The question has not been addressed: HOW DO I FIND A FIREFOX DOWNLOAD ARCHIVE & SWITCH BACK FROM F6 TO F5?

I, along with 70 some others, have the same problem. Z-A crashed & on restart loaded FireFox-6, which I DON'T WANT. Apparently it has disabled my Zone Alarm.

1. You have to go to this link that has the 5.0.1 release version of Firefox.

2. Choose the version you want, then the OS in the folder list, then your state or country code folder.

3. Then download the Firefox Installer.exe file.

4. Close your Firefox and UNINSTALL your current version of Firefox by going to the "add/remove programs" control panel

5. Then run the installer program you just downloaded.

Voila! You just downgraded. Hope that helps!

Thank you for those instructions. It's nonsensical to release a browser that cannot run Java. That's a basic requirement for any general purpose browser. Then, even after you uninstall the incompatible software in Control Panel, such as Java and Real Player, the extensions remain stuck in Firefox, with no means to uninstall them. The proper term for that behavior is "buggy". Moreover, to say to wait for major software manufacturers release software compatible with Firefox, is like the tail wagging the dog. What next, a release that tells us to wait for a service pack from Microsoft that makes Windows Firefox-compatible?

It is not recommended to downgrade to unsupported Firefox Versions. Firefox 3.6 is still supported. The Original Posters question appears to h ave been mainly relating to the Norton software, and they have now released a patch, so the problem appears solved.

It is probably best to start your own thread with full details if you still have problems. If the problem relates to specific software, such as Zone Alarm, it may help to include the software's name in the thread title when you ask a question.
