Thanks Cor-al

Thanks for your reply

Unfortunately i think your reply is too complicated and sends the user, me, in this case down too many blind alleys.

I found a fix myself (eventually) quick and simple by typing about config into the browser window and changing the value.

Many thanks again, Pete

Did you check the setting?

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General : Accessibility : [ ] "Warn me when web sites try to redirect or reload the page"

Make sure that that setting isn't check-marked.

If that didn't help then you can check for other problems.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Too anyone having this problem hope is at hand!! you need to type into the address bar about:config and then hit enter

Accept that you will be careful when the dragon warning box pops up !

Look for ; accessibility.blockautorefresh;true OR it may say reload depending on your version of firefox

Click on the line, it should turn blue, then hit enter and it will change true to false or vice versa.

That's it!! nothing to save just carry on browsing or to make absolutely sure restart Firefox.

I'm not a techy so please don't blame me if it goes t*t's up, i'm doing my best!!

Wonder what auto reply it will come up with this time!! ;O)

The pref accessibility.blockautorefresh is controlled by the above mentioned accessibility setting in Firefox/Tools > Options.
If changing that setting didn't change the pref then there is either a problem with the prefs or you have an extension that overrides the setting in Firefox/Tools > Options and in that case you may need to keep an eye on that setting.

I did mention that pref in my first post, but didn't include instructions about using the about:config page because that is usually not required in this case.

Yes you did mention ; Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > General : Accessibility : [ ] "Warn me when web sites try to redirect or reload the page" But that just WARNS etc!! It doesn't change the setting !! I asked how to alter the settings.

As i said in my first reply it was a blind alley

thank you for taking the time to help.
