I always get the google search page on startup. I have tried "resetting to default" but I am still stuck with google. If I start with the add-on's page I don't get google but I have yet to see the "awesome bar".

about:home is the default Homepage in Firefox 4. This - http://www.google.com/firefox - was the Homepage in earlier versions of Firefox.

The "Awesome Bar" has been part of Firefox since Firefox 3, it's not new for Firefox 4. What you see different than the mock-ups is that on WinXP and W2K the Menu bar is the default view, rather than the orange Firefox button. Right-click the Menu bar and click on Menu Bar to de-select it to have the Firefox button show.

Thanks for your answer but it did not help. The Options is already set to about:home.
