I am subscribed to thegenealogist.co.uk which is a genealogy site. What happens is you look up your ancestor and there are links to send you to the census image. Now when I go to click on these links I get a red circle with a diagonal red bar. The link does not open.

This could be a number of things, such as your firewall/anti-virus blocking the links from opening. Or it could be a problem with the Adobe Reader. If you try uninstalling all versions of adobe and installing a new one from the Adobe.com website. If you contact the support team at TheGenealogist using the web form with details of your browser they should be able to help.
