Click-and-hold Back button - drops down history TOO FAST!

Click-and-hold the left mouse button, on the Back button, drops down the list of recently visited URLs.

That's fine, but the delay after mousedown is WAY TOO FAST on both my work PC and my home PC. As far as I can tell, it's supposed to wait for a couple of seconds - but for me it's showing the list in well under 1 second. Well under.

The list keeps appearing when I don't want it, because I was a little slow in releasing the mouse. And then I either have to click into the popup list, or click Back twice (once to close the popup, and again to actually navigate back)

How can I make it wait longer before the popup appears? OR, disable the click-and-hold altogether? (So I can use the right-click instead, to get the popup when I actually WANT it).

SOLUTION!

I am deeply grateful to "vsub", who posted how to disable the click-and-hold dropdown in this thread: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=2174345

Put these two lines into your userChrome.css:

&#35back-button > menupopup {display: none !important;}

&#35forward-button > menupopup {display: none !important;}

Back and forward buttons then work as normal with single clicks, drop-down still appears with right-click. But click-and-hold does... NOTHING! Righteous!

BTW, there are add-ons to put an FF3-style dropdown button back on your toolbar too.

Install this add-on: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/backforward-dropmarker/

Also, right click the Back / Forward buttons to get a list of previously visited sites.

You can also use the location bar to search history, bookmarks etc., using special characters. See Search options

"Backward Forward History Dropdown 0.2.3" - is another addon that puts the dedicated dropdown button back... but it gives you a nice FAT button to click on compared to the one in Xircal's post.
