Old tabs reappearing on startup

I've had this issue for awhile:

When I start up Firefox (whether it's 3.6 or 4b), old tabs reappear in the tool bar. Now, I know you're thinking, "well, change the preference or say don't save next time". Doesn't matter. These tabs are OLD, several months old, last October old. I open new tabs and save those -- these old ones still open. I close the tabs, open a new window, and save that -- the old tabs still open.

Nothing seems to matter.

I've trashed preferences. I've deleted Firefox. Reinstalled Firefox. Installed Beta 4 Firefox, still same problem.

Chosen solution

This can be a problem with the file sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Profile Folder

Delete sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Profile Folder

If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.

Does it happen in a new profile? Please see Profile Manager - Create, remove or switch Firefox profiles.

Great couple of suggestions. I'll check these out when I get home from work tonight. Thanks! I'll let you know if anything works!

Seems like you were on the right track.

I deleted the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the profile folder, and restarted Firefox. Bam! No old tabs! Great news!

Still had the following error pop up though:

"The bookmarks and history system will not be functional because one of Firefox's files is in use by another application. Some security software can cause this problem"

So, I'll be working on this now.

Alright, another update.

1) Original problem of the old tabs was solved by deleting the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files from the Profile Folder.

2) Upon restarting Firefox, no old tabs, but continued to display two tabs - one "What's new in Firefox" and one of my home tab "Google"

3) If I opened a new tab or link, as I did to solve the "bookmark" error above, that tab is open upon restarting Firefox.

4) If I go and delete sessionstore.js again, I only get the two tabs mentioned in Number 2.

Interesting

Long story short. The original problem is solved!

It is possible that there is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

In the end, I deleted my profile. Created a new one with the Profile Manager. Everything is good now. Sincerely thank you for your help!
