I use some animated gif on my site and with FF4 the imgs show up once and then are opposite (the over is showed as a non over and viceversa)... FF3 on OSX and WIN, Chrome on OSX and WIN, IE8 and other browsers work fine.

This is the site: http://www.riflessivo.eu/intro/home_en.html

I already checked image.animation_mode on about:config and it is set to "normal". I also tryed other setups but it does not change anything.

A good place to discuss issues with Firefox 4.0 beta builds is at the mozillaZine Firefox Builds forum.
You need to register on the mozillaZine forum site in order to post at that forum.

See http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewforum.php?f=23

Hi, I posted the same problem to the mozillaZine forum but still I'm not having any solution. Hope this is just a bug on the beta version, all other browsers work.

Well, problem is still present also on FF 4b12. Is this something will be fixed or should I consider to modify my sites?

Also on FF4 RC1 the problem persists.. Any idea?

You can try if you can find a regression range for this issue and file a bug report.
If you can identify a regression range then it is much more likely that your problem gets attention and will be fixed or you may get suggestions on how to fix your code if that is the problem.

You can find older Firefox 4 nightly builds on the FTP server:

Hi, I downloaded some older versions. I installed 4b3 pre and all animations work fine except for the one on the right top, where there are 2 animations, one in the background and one in the foreground. Then I installed 4b6pre and animations work ONLY for the hover activity, when I move the mouse out I only see the first frame of the animated gif. Then I was not able to find other releases to install... I confirm again that "my site" works perfectly with all other browser I tested (FF3 up to the last 3.6.15 - Opera, IE 7 - IE 8 - Safari - Chrome) on different OS (WINXP - WIN 7 - VISTA - OSX - LINUX) where the browsers work.

I posted the bug to bugzilla and attached a scriptless testcase from keldorn. Let's see.... Thanks to all of you. Bye

  • Bug 641198 – Rollover animated gif show only one frame.

Looks that Alice0775 White found a regression range for your bug, so that should give hope.

Thanks cor-el. I hope so... Bye

This is definitely a FF4 bug. I operate 43 web pages, and none of the rollover animated GIFs work on this version. They always worked on FF3.XX and all other browsers.

I am disappointed that such a common function would have problems, with no admission of an error from Mozilla, and no fix in sight.

You can try an Aurora (Firefox 5.0) test build to see if it still happens in that version.

See this mozillaZine KB article for information:

Hi cor-el, yes thanks. I already installed the Aurora pre and the site works fine on it. I think they have solved the bug but it was to late for the release of FF4. Bye

And I'M ALSO DISAPPOINTED for this because they had time to include the solution but considered the bug "NOT IMPORTANT"...

Some bug fixes may depend on other bug fixes or code changes happened in the meantime and in such cases a fix is not backported to previous versions. Bug fixes are always done on the latest Nightly version. Also they need to take the stability into account. Sometimes they let code bake for some time to test for regressions or other problems.
