It stopped working like 2 weeks ago. I don't know what happened but when I open it I can't use it. I can't type in the search bar, I can't click anything, or go to any website. I can minimize it/close it by right clicking, not by the X or -. It seems to be working but with an error, the little "loading" icon keeps going but doesn't stop:

I've tried everything! I've uninstalled, reinstalled, deleted every other version of Firefox, everything!

This info is valid for Windows XP users, as I am not familiar with other OS. Check if any of the .sqlite data tables are corrupted. My places.sqlite, which stores the bookmark data was corrupt. I followed the instructions in the link below to repair the data and now FF4.01 runs like a charm - no freeze ups, and I have 2,300+ bookmarks.

If places.sqlite is corrupt, the two most important steps are:

1. Export the bookmarks in HTML format before doing anything. 2. MOVE the specified files out of the personal folder. Do not rename or delete.

I hope this helps.

Unfortunately, my solution was not permanent as the problem returned and FF 4 freezes again. Claims by Mozilla that the problems are caused by problematic add-ons are incorrect because freeze-up occurs even in Safe mode when the add-ons are disabled.

I am so glad I saw this thread! McAfee Site Advisor was my problem! I almost uninstalled FireFox because I was so frustrated! I not only couldn't do anything, but most of the time I couldn't even find FF except on the tray and even then couldn't make it expand to full size! I uninstalled the SiteAdvisor and FF is working now! Praying that's all that was wrong. THANKS for the help!!!!
