whenever i try to watch DivX movies through a streaming website, the extension to the movies are .avi files, only these streams cause my firefox to crash. if i would just let the firefox load itself out of the problem, which i have, it never does until i CTRL ALT DELETE it in the end task manager.

streaming worked fine for .avi files before the new firefox update, so will this error be fixed, or is it something else? and if so how do i fix the problem so i can continue to view these movies online?

Have you recently checked your plugins at https://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/ ? Please make sure that your DivX plugin is up to date.

Was having the same problem. Uninstalled the latest which is 8.1+, decided to go with an older version 8.o (released 9 months ago). Only installed the web player, works great after downgrade. Although wiki states 8.0.1 is stable and working.

Hello

Please let me know, if this piece of advice applies to Firefox 4.0.1, too? Waiting forward to your reply, SuperSteelers or anyone who found the reply helpful, thank you.

I tried this and it just says cannot find the files directories etc specified so its probably for an old Divx version. Im using Firefox 4.0.1 with Divx VOD helper plug in 1.0.0.403 Divx web player 2.1.1.94. Impossible to play any Divx video DDMService.exe eats up 99% of cpu forever and a popup message says cannot play your video check your internet connection. Its a giant FAIL.

SuperSteelers, thank you SO much! I only found answers for this problem for IE, but of course I use Firefox(coz you know, I don't like using a crappy browser, heheh). This was a quick and easy solution. I really appreciate it - so thanks again!

Thanks SuperSteelers. This worked perfectly for me and I'm using Firefox 7.

I decided to upgrade first to version 7.0.1 and then I shall test Supersteelers' solution if it works for me as well. Thank you for a great idea, Alabamah. I will let you know if it works.

Bah! I did have to run the script again the next day but since then it's been fine. BTW...I know it's probably obvious but make sure you make a restore point before going ahead with things, just in case something is different on your system to mine.

Thank you, Alabamah. I'll do that.

As it turns out this doesn't seem to be solving the problem permanently. After shutting down last night the old problem returned this morning. I had to run the script again. Forgot to restart and made things worse. Did a restore and after it did restart DivX worked perfectly. It's flying right now as I post this reply. Will have to wait and see if it works again. (It does say in my Add-ons Manager that the player (2.1.2.126) is not compatible Firefox 7.01 and is disabled but running now none the less) Quite the mystery. I will not be defeated. Good luck to all. (Now I have to decide whether to risk installing Firefox 8.) btw...it's also working in IE and Chrome

Just re-checked my add-ons and am running DivX Player player (2.1.2.125)

Yep, I have to go through that process every time I boot after having used DixX. Still makes it work the next time so I guess it's better than nothing at this stage. The search for a more permanent fix continues.

Hello,

So I see that you guys have the same problem that I had. Whenever I stream a DivX movie with the Web Player, Firefox crashes or glitch for several minutes. SuperSteelers solution worked for me, however, it was only temporary, because I had to do it after every 3-4 movies.

I decided to fully uninstall the DivX pack and go back to a previous version of DivX Web Player only (1.8.4). Everything worked fine. But I didn't like the "look" of it, too old :P. I downloaded a new full-included installation pack from their website (same version I had), and it worked like a charm. So I don't know if you guys just have to uninstall/reinstall, but that's how I managed to make it work.

By the way, does anybody knows how to make the DivX Web Player to work on Firefox 8 or do I have to go back to the v7 ?

@dynfo I had to go back to v7. Just have to play the waiting game until all the add ons catch up I guess. BtwI'm not having any more troubles atm using DivX Player player (2.1.2.125). Haven't had any crashes for 2 weeks after going through SuperSteelers' steps again.
