On Firefox 4.0 Beta 5 text on web sites looks blurry.

I didn't notice this issue with earlier betas of FF 4 so I guess the problem came up when I upgraded from version FF 4.0 Beta 4 to Beta 5. I don't have this problem on Chrome 7.0.517.0 dev or IE 8.

Just an FYI: My video card is an XFX Radeon HD 5850 running the ATI Catalyst version 10.8 driver.

This is all bollocks. I have no hardware acceleration. My graphics card is too old for that. But still, the fonts are blurry due to this fucking antialiasing. This gets on my nerves big time. I'm using FF 4 on Ubuntu 11.04. Switching off subpixel rendering (font smoothing) in Ubuntu preferences doesn't change a thing either. FF 4 keeps this 'ClearType'-like shit. Makes reading web pages a pain in the ass.

Turning off Morphological filtering worked for me.

System: Win7, AMD Catalyst drivers.

Hi Everyone, I had the same problem and after doing some research I found out that the problem was not the firefox's hardware acceleration setting. Rather it was a problem caused by a setting on my graphics card i.e "Morphological filtering". I'm using ATI Radeon HD5750 with the latest drivers and I'm running FireFox 5. The setting was even affecting widows live messenger. Here is where i found the solution: http://www.sevenforums.com/graphic-cards/166423-text-looks-if-water-has-been-poured.html#post1424568

I hope it works for you all and I also hope it restores your confidence in the most awesome web browser in the world "Mozilla FireFox"

I also had this problem. I have an hd radeon card (hd 6870), and I noticed that some others also have ati cards. The way that I fixed the problem: in catalyst control center, under gaming settings-->anti aliasing, just make sure that morphological anti aliasing is off, and turn it on when you need to use it for a game. I noticed that this fixed firefox blurriness for me, as well as some other intermittent blurry text in other programs.
