This morning after no noticeable change to my computer, the bookmarks are missing from Firefox. I thought it might be after last update, but that was a week ago (I think) and I didn't have this issue until after the weekend (computer on but not used, system did not restart). The bookmark backups are listed but i get the following error when trying to load them:

"Unable to process the backup file."

I have found the file location, but even trying to do it manually gives the same error.

Is this a bug from the new update?

Issue solved by restarting. Lost all the tabs I had open in one window (which is what I was afraid of), but the bookmarks are back. Oh well, I guess I didn't need to look at those things anyway, or i'll find them again.
