This fault occurred after the recent Windows 10 update. Nothing happens when I click "Open" on the Desktop 'Firefox' icon. Also clicking on the icon at the bottom left-hand side of the screen does not work. Selecting Firefox from the Windows menu gives no response. I checked the 'Compatibility' tab: 'Windows 8' is not ticked.

Hi, Did the update leave a text folder on your desktop with a list of programs it took out ? Sometimes it does.

Ok well lets get a copy of your Profile folder for safe keeping if it is still there

Now lets do a clean install : uninstall Firefox. Then Delete the Mozilla Firefox Folders in C:\Program Files , C:\Program Files(x86) & C:\ProgramData Then restart system. Then run Windows Disk Cleanup. (Note: This should be Pinned and run Weekly, If never done below expect 10's of gig's) Then run it again and click the button that says Cleanup System Files.

Note: your Firefox Profile is saved.

Reinstall with Current Release Firefox 60.0.2 with a Full Version Installer

Always to be done :
