I would like to read a page when I am off line. How do I do that? I mean, I know that I can save a page to disk but I cannot retrieve it then using an unrelated hyperlink.

A sufficiently large cache and the File menu > Work Offline should work. If you want to be SURE the pages get saved (and not just rely on automatic browser cache), you could try a plugin like ScrapBook, https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/scrapbook/.
