newtab default change

I simply want my home page to appear on new tabs, not the tiles of history. I don't understand why Firefox doesn't make this as simple as selecting a default home page. It could be easily done right in the General or Search tabs in options. Seems like a reasonable toggle to ask for.

On Firefox 41.0.1 there is no "browser.newtab.url" in about:config at least on mine. I have tried to solve this using existing message/question strings and man refer to "browser.newtab.url". I would love to resolve this in this manner but that selection simply doesnt exist for me.

there is only browser.newtabpage.directory.source

and

Only browser.newtabpage.directory.Ping

I changed them both to https://duckduckgo.com and still get the tiles.

I don't want the tiles. I just want my home page.

Any help available on this?

Hi, from Firefox 41, you need to use an add-on like New Tab Override (browser.newtab.url replacement), to make changes to the New Tab page.

Once installed, open the Add-ons Manager (Ctrl+Shift+A) > Extensions, then look for New Tab Override and click on Options to set your preference.

Note, if you only want the New Tab to be the same as your Home page, you can use the add-on New Tab Homepage instead.

You may then need to restart Firefox for any changes to take effect.

If your question is resolved by this or another answer, please take a minute to let us know. Thank you.

Also the ability to edit typos would be awesome on these question boards.

So I wouldn't have to post a new reply just to say I meant "many" not "man" in the previous question post.

In case anyone is listening out there...

Thanks

Thanks, new tab homepage was what I wanted. I got it and contributed a little.

Still don't understand why the Firefox folks would not simply add this option. I'm sure someone thought the recent visited tiles were brilliant, but some of us are more simple than them. Plus, although I don't visit many "freaky" web sites, I still don't need my browsing history to jump up bold every time I click a new tab.

I know where I want to go when I click a new tab. I don't need my browser to remind me where I've been. There's already a history string to find that if I need it, plus just typing in the search window shows much of this info as I type.

I love Firefox...I'm just sayin'
