Hello Annettena, try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:
- Click the menu button , click Help and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".
If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.
To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.
There are other things that need attention.
Your System Details List shows multiple Flash plugins.
- Shockwave Flash 16.0 r0
- Shockwave Flash 17.0 r0
You can find the installation path of all plugins on the about:plugins page.
You can check the Flash player installation folder for multiple Flash player plugins and remove older version(s) of the plugin (NPSWF32) and possibly (re)install the latest Flash player.
- (32 bit Windows) C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash\
- (64 bit Windows) C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash\
Is the Firefox window maximized or are you possibly in full screen mode (F11)?
Try to rename (or delete) the xulstore.json file in the Firefox profile folder. You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:
- Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)

I do not have any "method" or technical know how. What I did was reload Firefox, and then go through everything over and over until the options I wanted would finally actually stick. I have no sound control now, and there is no way to adjust "options" (can't even find "options") and I am unable to actually adjust what history is saved or not, etc. But, I will either learn to live without or figure out a way to fix things.
I apologize for having no idea what was being discussed when people were pointing out to me xlson etc needed attention. I have things to the point where I can actually use the internet, for me that was a huge step.
None of this would be necessary if I had not accepted the update for Firefox. So, in order to keep my computer safe, I give up things....not sure whether that is a good deal or not.
