Weird triangles or squares appear on my screen, they disappear by arrow down key, but sometimes not completely, can still see small bits of them here and there

They are usually different shades of grey. Sometimes they cover the whole screen, but more often only part of screen. When I try to do a printscreen, they disappear and the png. shows the normal screen. Sometimes they are just in the toolbar area, blovking the address bar or the open windows bar. I now hit the down arrow until they recede enough to continue. Ubuntu 14.04, System 76 gazpro6,

Can you attach a screenshot?

  • Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot
  • Make sure that you do not exceed the maximum size of 1 MB

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

You can try to disable OMTC and leave hardware acceleration in Firefox enabled.

  • about:config page: layers.offmainthreadcomposition.enabled = false

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.
